Pre-Budget Report 2009 - KPMG comments on the environmental measures announced in the PBR

Companies signed up to Climate Change Levy will see bills rise by 1.5%

Wednesday, 9 December 2009

Barbara Bell, Senior tax manager at KPMG said :

"The Chancellor attempted to sign off a green budget today with many worthy sentiments on supporting energy efficiency and developing new low-carbon technologies. However, there was very little new thinking, and energy intensive businesses will feel let down at the increase in the rate of the Climate Change Levy which will see their energy bills rise by up to 1.5% a year by 2011.

"On the plus side, the scrappage scheme for older boilers will hopefully prove as successful as the scheme was for the automotive sector bringing a much needed boost to the manufacturing industry whilst safeguarding and creating some new jobs.  As consumers produce the greater part of their carbon footprint from their cars and domestic fuels, it is good to see an incentive being introduced to improve domestic energy efficiency.
